Once the king of Hoysala Veera ballal II who came out for hunting expedition, lost the way in the forest... Finally after hours of searching he came to a place... he met a old woman. He was tired and hungry... the old woman served him with boiled beans ( benda kaalu in kannada ).
Thus the king gave the name of this place to be benda-kaal-uru.... ( ಬೆಂದಕಾಳೂರು)(the place of boiled beans )
This name today evolved into bengaluru and internationally famous as Bangalore...

These days people say that the city is deteriorating in its culture and geographical features, now the temperature is increasing because of pollution and global warming... thus they say that bangalore is becoming benda kaaluru.. again.. in the sense its burning
